George Steven

George Steven ARCM is the director and teacher of Malden Young Strings. George Steven serves on the London Centre Committee of the European String Teachers Association.

He has also served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Youth Orchestra for 26 years and played a major role in starting the Festival of British Youth Orchestras on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Malden Young Strings' most recent performance at the festival received the following commendation:

'To celebrate the connection with Finland they played Sibelius Andante Festivo, a beautiful and lyrical piece with harmonies and progression that give it that typical Finnish flavor. The whole group was excellent and one could not fault anything about it's performance'. (CN)

In addition to performing in Edinburgh, Malden Young Strings Seniors have toured to Paris, Dublin, New York, Florence, Helsinki and Tallinn.

Members who have attained a very high standard have progressed to the principal music colleges and several are now professional performers and teachers.
